Identity Challenges Facing Muslim Youth
تحديات الهوية للشباب المسلم
Abstract
This study seeks to shed light on the overwhelming digital tide that defines our current reality and the new conditions imposed upon us. It emphasizes the urgent need for awareness regarding the challenges facing our youth today. Unfortunately, many core religious values have diminished, and Islamic identity faces serious threats. The linguistic proficiency of our children has weakened, and their cultural affiliation has declined. As a result, they are increasingly adopting a foreign set of values propagated by Western discourse and global media.
The primary aim of this research is to explore the concept of identity, its components, and the various factors influencing it. The study highlights the specific identity-related challenges encountered by Muslim youth and the dangers these pose to their cultural and religious belonging. It further outlines the foundational elements necessary for preserving Islamic identity among the younger generation.
The researcher adopts an inductive and analytical methodology to examine the subject matter. The study concludes that in the face of a flood of competing identities and cultural intrusions, it is imperative to safeguard and uphold our unique identity with pride. Otherwise, there is a real risk of cultural assimilation that could erase our historical memory, civilization, and spiritual heritage. The study also underscores that while the digital world brings advancements, it simultaneously poses deep threats to the essence of human and religious identity.
